RULE: you cannot attain a new, sophisticated way of being in a relationship using old, unsophisticated methods. If you want a radically different, fulfilling relationship, you must know how to shape it.
Ok, ok...it's more than shaping clay, but the analogy holds. Rather than rely on a blind trust the relationship will somehow "just work", we need to deliberately and purposefully keep our relationships healthy. It sounds kind of plastic and fake, but opening regular communication (in a healthy way) with your partner is an incredible opportunity to strengthen the relationship.
